25 Aprile 1945
Remember, oh citizen, this date
And explain it to your children
And to their children too
Tell them
How a people in revolt
One day got the freedom
From the oppression
And tell them
The thousand and thousand deeds of those brave ones
That on the mountains, villages and everywhere
Stopped the invader
Nor forget the dead ones
Nor forget to tell
What was fascism
And nazism
And remember the war,
The ruins, the massacres, the hunger and the misery,
The roar of the bombs and the tears of the mothers
Remember Buchenwald
The gas chambers and the crematoria
And all of this
Explain to your children
And to their children too
Not to make the Hate and the Vengeance last
But to let then know what an immense good thing
Freedom is
So that they learn to love it
So that they preserve it
So that they defend it always.
