I still remember the time I read my first ever research paper and was completely blown away!
The hardest part was that I didn’t know how to get through the paper with all its complexities (how do I even start? , Wait, I didn’t understand this section(Panic!), what do I do with all these references ? etc) and I spent probably like a month trying to understand it but in vain.
Since this is a skill that rarely gets taught, to all those budding researchers I strongly recommend reading the linked article. Trust me it would save you tons of time !

Io piu o meno lo facevo gia’, inconsciamente, anche se non avevo mai formalizzato in modo cosi’ preciso la tecnica. La consideravo piu’ uno “spulciare roba un po’ a casaccio”.
Di solito quando sto cercando articoli su un qualche argomento specifico che mi serve, e non so se quell’articolo fara’ al caso mio, leggo titolo e abstract, un’occhiata veloce a introduzione e conclusioni, e via. Praticamente un po’ meno delle cose che questo indica nella first pass.
Solo pochissimi articoli sopravvissuti a questa prima selezione finiscono per essere letti del tutto (e tante volte clarity una bella fava, perlopiu’ son scritti a cazzo di cane).
